Alani Afu

Country Director

Mr. Alani Afu joined joined Live and Learn Tonga (LLT) in May 2023 as the Country Director. His role includes the overall management of the organization, writing grants, coordinating with the the Live & Learn Environmental Education Network in the Pacific, Asia and Australia and reporting to the LLT board.

Current Work

Mr. Alani Afu holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Auckland and a Masters of Project Management. Both degrees confer key skills that contribute to the expert management of Live and Learn Tonga. Mr. Alani Afu started his career in Tonga as a Tax Auditor at the beginning of 2014 with the Compliance and Audit Division of the Revenue Department. Later, he became a policy analyst in the planning and policy division of the Ministry where he specialized in policy and project design. In the beginning of 2019, he moved to the office of the National Authorizing Officer under the European Union Development Fund for ACP countries. Mr. Alani Afu was the grant program manager for the EU Grant program to the CSO sector where he was responsible for the design of the EU Call for Proposals for Tonga, facilitating the information sessions of the call, capacitating of grantees in both procedural and reporting standards and finalizing the acquittals for all of the EU Grantees under the 11th EDF program. Live and Learn Tonga was excited to receive Mr. Alani Afu in May 2023 as their Country Director. Since the beginning of his tenure, he has brought in new projects and opportunities to communities in a various areas.
